"Debate Leader School 2019/2020" has visited Riga Purvciems Secondary School!

Debate Leader School is an educational project for students, that teaches them not only how to debate, but also how to clearly express yourself and be more confident in public. Project "Debate Leader School 2019/2020" is supported by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the British Council Latvia.
Two students of Riga Purvciems Secondary school were lucky to join the DLS in October.
On December 5th, the girls of Purvciems Secondary school Elina Stoļerova and Katrina Solovjova conducted a workshop for their peers on the “construction of an argument” and spoke about the improvement of public speaking skills. The students responded positively and were eager to complete the practical tasks on the formation of arguments which they presented to the class. Everyone was involved and enthusiastic giving the speeches to the classmates. It was a pleasure to realize that the information and materials obtained from the DLS sessions could be successfully applied by the students and incorporated into the class training workshop.
On December 9th the DLS mentors Kristofers and Ieva visited Riga Purvciems Secondary school to deliver a lecture for 10 graders about “the world debating format”. The students were eager to learn about debates, the structure of debating and the debating process and to participate in engaging practical activities applying the debating skills and techniques.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and the workshop and have given very positive feedback.
Moreover, the mentors gave useful recommendations on how to set up a debate club at school.
The students are grateful for this amazing experience!
